The Radiation Safety Program is responsible for assisting the Columbia University community in the safe use of ionizing radiation including radioactive materials (RAM) and x-rays. The program is designed to protect users, staff, patients, the general public and environment from exposure, and ensure the safe receipt, handling, use and storage of RAM. The mission of this program is to facilitate safe conditions for utilizing radiation, maintain radiation exposures As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA), and to ensure operations are in compliance with applicable city, state and federal regulations.
